People in the hilly town of Gopeshwar in Chamoli district were recently surprised to see the Nano, Tata Motors' controversial Rs 100,000 car, parked on a roadside.

The Nano had travelled all the way from Pantnagar, crossing the tough, serpentine roads of Uttarakhand, to reach picturesque Gopeshwar nestling in the Garhwal Himalayan region.

Funny Car Ads

I just found an oldish series of car ad’s from 2006. Each one is a reply to the previous ad. They have to be the best ad’s I’ve seen ever. They are so funny.

First one is from BMW.

Next up we have Audi.

Then Subaru wanted to be part of the fun.

Finally the master peice from Bentley. Personally just this ad by itself would make me buy a bentley if only I had the money.

Aston Martin’s $2.3 Million One-77 Car!

Poor Bugatti Veyron: it wasn’t enough that the $1.4 million car was dethroned as the fastest production car on the planet, it’s now not even the most expensive one …

Here’s the One-77, a $2.3 million hand-made coupe by Aston Martin:

Paying $2.3 million for anything that doesn’t have wings is beyond excessive, but then, those few who get a One-77 aren’t buying a car. They are, according to Aston Martin, buying An Experience. Autocar says buyers will be invited to the factory in Gaydon, where they’ll meet with designers and engineers to develop the car to their exact specifications.

"It’s a very special car for customers who want to take the bespoke experience to a higher level," company chairman David Richard told Autocar. "Every car will be entirely individual."

And bookies are taking bets on who would be the first to buy the car (so far David Beckham is the favorite!)

World's Largest Hourglass Filled With Silver Balls and a Luxury Sedan For BMW Moscow Launch

For its 7 series Euro launch in Moscow, BMW constructed the monstrosity you see here and filled it with 180,000 silver balls that slowly revealed their new oligarch cruiser. Funny they should pick the city with probably the highest ominous-luxury-sedan-with-90%-window-tint concentration per capita on the continent. I guess that explains the drama—everyone in the Moscow 7 series market probably finds a new $100k+ ride in their couch cushions every few days, so anything less than a massive hourglass in Red Square with a car inside wouldn't have warranted a glance. Ignore the BMW suits in the following video; let's watch those balls fall. More »

World’s First Wooden Supercar: The Splinter

I came across a revolutionary creation of coupe made up of stolid wooden by an established designer Joe Harmon, in collaboration with students at North Carolina State University.

Touted to be an exclusive performance wooden super car, The Splinter maintains the higher strength-to-weight ratio of wood in comparison to aluminum or steel, thereby making it to be the expedient and appealing material to work with. Moreover, the resourcefulness of wood allows the litheness of testing and the integration of diverse methods along with designs. What add the beauty to the coupe includes its look; tang and feel of authentic appeal.

Suzuki S-Ride: a car that thinks it's a motorcycle

Suzuki-S-Ride.jpg

The Suzuki S-Ride features the kind of seating arrangement you'd see in a fighter jet: one person up front, one person in back. Who knows if this concept will ever be a reality, but the S-Ride is aimed at a young crowd to whom the excitement of a motorcycle would appeal, but with the safety of a car. Suzuki is still playing around with what futuristic features it would teasingly add to the car, such as telematic communication, presumably between vehicles and for road information.

Check out the gallery below for more of the Suzuki S-Ride.

Toyota iQ unveiled! - Nano has a high-end twin!

toyota_iq_front.jpg

Toyota’s being coy about iQ, its latest pocketcar that just rolled out in its shipping trim at the Geneva Motor Show. Clearly aimed to compete directly with the Mercedes-built Smart Fortwo car, the company’s not saying if iQ will be hybrid-powered, but did mention “low-emission engines” and a specially designed flat gas tank underneath the floor. One thing’s for sure: the 9.75-foot city car is tiny and exceptionally cool-looking. They’re calling its styling “techno-organic.”

The final version of the microcar appears to be a bit more conventional than its bulbous concept version unveiled last year, but it’ll still reportedly be crammed with gadgetry and creative design ideas. Somehow its creators have figured out how to seat three adults and a baby inside the tiny cockpit, calling it “surprisingly spacious.” Check out the big front-and-center screen inside, sure to be packed with techno-goodness such as GPS and more. Production begins at the end of this year, but the company’s mum about pricing.
